Mars Environment Compatibility Assessment

Mars Environment Compatibility Assessment - The Mars Environmental Compatibility Assessment (MECA) is a set of instruments designed to investigate hazards on the surface of Mars that could effect human exploration. MECA was developed at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory through NASA's Human Exploration and Development of Space (HEDS) Enterprise. MECA has been revived and placed on the newly anounced NASA Mars Phoenix mission.

Cardiff Centre for Astrobiology

Cardiff Centre for Astrobiology - Astrobiology has emerged as a new science for the new millennium. It seeks to understand life in the context of the wider cosmos. The new Centre will continue in the pioneering traditions of astrobiology started in Cardiff over 25 years ago, taking note of the many relevant discoveries that have been made in recent years. The Centre aims to combine the expertise of astronomers, biochemists and microbiologists to generate cutting edge science that would eventually enable us to answer the age-old question: where did we come from?

Beagle 2 Project

The Beagle 2 project is the British led effort to land on Mars as part of the European Space Agency's Mars Express Mission to be launched in June 2003. The Beagle 2 mission will be the first Mars lander since Viking 25 years ago that will conduct a search for extinct or extant life forms on Mars. Did the Viking biology experiments reveal the presence of microbial life 25 years ago? Beagle 2 may answer that nagging question once and for all. Beagle 2 will also look for the hypothetical oxidants that NASA says are in the soil and atmosphere as well as organic material.

Inform Nauka - Special Methods Of Disinfection In Outer Space

Inform Nauka - Special Methods Of Disinfection In Outer Space - Russian scientists have discovered an original and effective way to protect space equipment from microbes. They suggest that the substances that turn bacteria and fungous cells into anabiosis should be used for disinfection in outer space.
